She also covers Eastpointe and Roseville community schools for the Roseville-Eastpointe Eastsider newspaper. Allard has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Wayne State University, and she is in love with the Rolling Stones.

WARREN — The talent of Macomb Community College student Linda Hopkins will cruise the avenue during the St. Clair Shores Harper Charity Cruise next year.

Through a competition held at the college, artwork that the Royal Oak resident designed was chosen as the 2013 Kiwanis Harper Charity Cruise’s new logo, which will be used in conjunction with promoting the cruise, scheduled for Aug. 28, 2013.

Hopkins’ logo depicts a red-colored classic car featuring decorative flames, a top hat and a marquee.

FRASER — The Fraser Public Schools community had a fight on its hands last month, facing one of the toughest opponents of all: cancer.

The district’s annual fundraiser “Fraser vs. Cancer” was held the week of Sept. 24 and raised approximately $20,000 to fight cancer. The donations will be distributed to a variety of cancer-related charities including the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, University of Michigan Hospital, the American Cancer Society, the Believe Foundation, and the Special Days Camp.
