A woman engaged in a standoff with police after her husband was found dead in the home at 4:12 p.m. July 21.

According to a news release from Detective Lt. Jeff Jagielski, officers responded to a home in the 21000 block of Winchester Street on a report that a woman had shot her husband and had barricaded herself in the bedroom.

When officers arrived, Jagielski said, they discovered a man on the kitchen floor.

“Officers were able to carry the victim out of the home, where they discovered he had suffered a fatal gunshot wound,” Jagielski said in the release.

Police then tried to get the woman to come out of the house, but she remained barricaded in the bedroom.

The standoff lasted for several hours while police attempted to negotiate with the woman.

Officers from the Southfield Police Special Entry and Response Team made entry into the home and placed the woman in custody.

She was reportedly carried out of the home on a stretcher around midnight.

Jagielski said in the release that she was then transported to a hospital for treatment and is awaiting arraignment.
