WCS board to discuss school closing, moving students

WARREN/STERLING HEIGHTS — The Warren Consolidated Schools Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. April 24 to discuss the recommendation of closing Angus Elementary School, 3180 Hein Drive in Sterling Heights, for the 2019-20 school year.

School board members also will discuss the recommendation that part of the attendance area for Beer Middle School, 3200 Martin Road in Warren, be adjusted to Carleton Middle School, 8900 15 Mile Road in Sterling Heights, to help balance the district’s student population.

The meeting will be held at the WCS Administration Building, 31300 Anita Drive in Warren. School officials have posted a list of frequently asked questions at about the recommendations.

According to a letter that Superintendent Robert Livernois posted online April 17, the meeting will include the opportunity “to gain feedback from the community.” The letter also states, “We have more classroom space than we need,” thus the recommendations.“Together we will manage this change for next year to help our children continue to get an excellent education,” Livernois stated. “I appreciate your continued support, and if you have any additional questions that we could add to our list, please call (586) 698-4093 or email”
