UTICA — The Utica American Legion Post 351 is inviting the local community to come out and join the post at its sixth annual picnic and bike ride Aug. 7.

John Myroniuk, a member of the Legion, said the event is open to all who would like to come out and enjoy a nice day of fun and possibly a bike ride to benefit a good cause. The Legion is putting on the events with Macomb County Marine Corps League Detachment 154.

The picnic will take place at the American Legion Post 351 at 46146 Cass Ave. from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 7. The bike ride will start at 8 a.m. sharp at the Stony Creek Metropark boat launch.

The picnic will feature hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, pop, firetrucks, defense vehicles, horseshoes, a bounce house for kids, 50-50 raffles, gift baskets and more. The public is welcome.

Myroniuk explained more about the bike ride.

“We have riders, from both groups, who solicit sponsors and donations via every lap completed or by a flat donation. Riders complete 30 miles or as many laps as they can perform. Monies go to support veterans and other organizations that we try to assist in supporting needs as funds are available. The picnic is for all and we ask for a suggested donation of $5. Riders receive their meal as a part of the registration process. This is a great way to support your local veterans organizations, your community, and meet new individuals and families,” he said in an email.

He said he would like to thank those who do come out to support the event.

“Thank you in advance for your time and interest with our efforts to support the community in which we live,” said Myroniuk.

Gus Calandrino, Utica’s mayor and American Legion Post 351 second vice commander, said the American Legion Post 351 does a lot for the community. The picnic is an event to bring the veterans of the post and members of the community together.

“This annual event is sponsored by the American Legion Post 351 as a way to help build a great relationship between the post and the community. Come enjoy a burger and a beverage and meet some people who are doing great things in our community,” Calandrino said via email.

He said that as mayor of Utica and second vice commander of the post, he values the contribution the post makes to the city.

“Please stop by and help this organization continue to help our city,” he said.
