CLINTON TOWNSHIP — U.S. Marshals and the Clinton Township Police Department are currently working together to locate a suspect who allegedly cut his pregnant ex-girlfriend.

Clinton Township Police Capt. Richard Maierle said that at about 8:45 p.m. Oct. 9, the suspect, Kevin Lee VanAelst, 45, reportedly followed his girlfriend to the township police station on Groesbeck Highway.

The woman, 22 weeks pregnant and whose name was withheld, was there related to a personal protection order to VanAelst.

Maierle said that when the woman opened her car door, VanAelst was allegedly standing there and “cut her in the face-throat area” with a box cutter before fleeing the scene.

“(VanAelst) apparently followed her into the station. … We’ve been looking for him since then,” Maierle said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The U.S. Marshals were enlisted to help locate the suspect. Maierle said that a family member of VanAelst lives in Clinton Township.

VanAelst has a criminal history that includes car theft, home invasions and drug possession charges.
