Staff and patients at Beaumont Hospital, Troy,  didn’t have to wait long after the clock struck midnight Jan. 1 to hear the strains of “Brahms’ Lullaby,” which play each time a baby is born.

Levi James Stouffer, the third child of Mark and Becky Stouffer, of Oakland Township, arrived at 12:42 a.m. Jan. 1.

Levi weighed in at 8 pounds, 8 ounces and 21 1/2 inches at 40 weeks.

Mom and baby are doing well.

“He was a couple days late,” Becky said.

She explained that Levi was due on Dec. 29. When she went to her doctor on Dec. 31, they told her to drop their other two sons off and go into the hospital so she could be induced, based on what was going on.

“The other kids came on their own,” Becky said of the other births.

They had opted not to find out Levi’s sex before he was born.

“They (Owen, 7 and Henry, 5) are very excited to have a little brother,” Becky said.

The Stouffers said they were focused on other things and not time ticking by, so the news that Levi was Beaumont Hospital’s New Year’s baby was a “delightful surprise,” Mark said. “We were oblivious.”

The Stouffers said they planned to celebrate the new year with party hats and noisemakers Jan.3, their first full day home.
