DETROIT — Twenty-four-year-old Harper Woods resident Oscar Johnson Jr. has been arrested in connection to the murder of two men found dead on Detroit’s east side.

According to the Detroit Police Department, police received a call about a car that had hit a fence at 2:11 a.m. Jan. 20 in the area of Barlow Street and Eastwood Street in Detroit, which is near M-97 and Seven Mile Road. Officers arrived on the scene and discovered one man dead within the vehicle and another dead nearby. Detectives described the men as both being 31 years old and having died from gunshot wounds.

Johnson was arrested in connection to this crime Feb. 5 in Lexington, Kentucky, and was extradited. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office is not releasing details regarding how Johnson got to Kentucky, nor how he was located there by authorities.

Police have formally charged Johnson with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of firearms possession by a felon and three counts of felony firearm violations. He was previously on probation for conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.

He was arraigned Feb. 23, and a preliminary examination is scheduled for March 19. According to court records, he had not retained or been assigned an attorney prior to publication.
