Blossom Heath Park was closed for the early morning hours of May 11 after St. Clair Shores Police received a call from a man who said he intended to commit suicide while parked at the fishing pier.

The unidentified man called police dispatch at midnight May 11, saying that he intended to commit suicide with a shotgun and would not put the weapon down. Police found the man’s vehicle parked in a public parking lot near the Blossom Heath Pier and removed members of the public from the area.

Although police tried several times to make contact with the man, they were unable to do so. According to a press release from St. Clair Shores Police, the car’s dark-tinted windows prevented officers from even seeing inside the vehicle. The Emergency Response Team was called to assist with the situation, but just before 7 a.m. police discovered that the man was deceased inside his vehicle from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

St. Clair Shores Police remained on the scene and the park was still closed after 9 a.m., but was expected to reopen shortly.
