CENTER LINE — Three days of music, carnival rides, fireworks and family-friendly activities: Are we ready for springtime yet?

Organizers say all of that and more are on the schedule for the the fifth annual Center Line Independence Festival presented by the Center Line Downtown Development Authority June 5-7.

“This year’s festival is shaping up to be the best yet,” Center Line Mayor Robert Binson said. “We have great tribute bands to Journey, Bon Jovi and KISS on ‘Flashback Friday’ (June 5). We have a mechanical bull, line dancing instruction, great bands, a coed softball tournament, fireworks and much more on ‘Saddle Up Saturday’ (June 6).”

Binson, who also chairs the board for the Center Line Festival Foundation, said more music, including a Bob Seger tribute band, is planned for “Spotlight Sunday” on June 7.

There will also be helicopter rides, bounce houses and a carnival set up near 10 Mile Road and Lawrence Avenue, all with free parking and admission.

“So it will be a great year for sponsors to take advantage of the opportunity to get exposure at this great event,” Binson said.

Center Line City Manager Dennis Champine, who serves as the vice chair of the Center Line Festival Foundation, said the city’s DDA made a $10,000 commitment to secure naming rights to the festival this year. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will sponsor one of the festival days. The fireworks on Saturday night will be sponsored by Christian Financial Credit Union. Crest Ford and the city’s contracted engineers Anderson, Eckstein & Westrick will be among the band sponsors.

“There are sponsorships still available: the stage sponsorship, two of the three days (sponsorships),” Champine said. “There are other sponsorships that could be arranged if it’s a significant enough donation to cover the cost of the activities or events. We’re looking for people and businesses to step up and be a part of this event as it continues to grow.”

The festival will span the same weekend as the second annual Cruisin’ 53 Center Line-Warren Car Cruise, set for Saturday, June 6.

Champine said more information about the Center Line Independence Festival, including a schedule and sponsorship opportunities, will be updated online at Those interested in sponsorships can also call (586) 757-6800.
