ROSEVILLE — A suspect is in custody in connection with a series of bank robberies in Macomb County after a bank was robbed in Roseville Jan. 3.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. at the Fifth Third Bank on Gratiot Avenue south of Frazho Road. The Roseville Police Department said that a 57-year-old Warren man entered the bank and handed a clerk a note saying he had a gun and demanding money. However, police added that no gun was seen by witnesses.

According to investigators, the clerk complied with the demands and the suspect exited the bank and left the area. Later the same day, members of the Roseville Police Department located the suspect in a home on Dresden Street in Detroit and took him into custody without incident.

"Excellent police work done by members of our patrol division and detective bureau led to the arrest of the suspect," a Roseville police press release states.

The Roseville Police Department said Jan. 3 that the suspect is believed to be responsible for multiple bank robberies in Macomb County, and the Police Department was working with the FBI to determine charges and arrange the time and venue for an arraignment.

A robbery with similar elements to the Fifth Third robbery occurred Dec. 22 at Citizens Bank, located at 26000 Gratiot Ave., which is just north of Frazho Road. However, the department would not comment whether its investigators think that robbery is among the other crimes for which they believe the suspect in custody is responsible.
