MOUNT CLEMENS — The Macomb County Probate Court and operations will begin business at its new home in downtown Mount Clemens starting May 13.

The change from its current location at 21850 Dunham Road to the Macomb County Circuit Court at 40 N. Main St. will commence the week of May 6, although many cases slated for Monday and Tuesday will continue at the Dunham Road location, court officials said.

There will be no regular docket for probate court May 8-10, but emergency matters will be heard those days at the circuit court building.

Full probate court operations will resume at the Macomb County Circuit Court on May 13.

Probate judges Kathryn George and Sandra Harrison will move to new permanent chambers on the fifth floor of the courthouse, along with all other probate court functions.

The move is the final phase of a multi-year campus renovation project in Mount Clemens.

Chief Judge James M. Biernat Jr. said the court’s downtown campus renovation, including the relocation of the probate court, was set in motion many years ago by his predecessors.

“I want to extend a warm welcome to the Probate Court judges and staff, and to all of the attorneys and members of the public who visit or have business with the Probate Court,” he said in a prepared statement. “The fully renovated courtrooms and the improved space for other Probate Court functions should serve the public well. I appreciate everyone’s patience during the temporary inconvenience of moving.”

Those who may not frequent the downtown area near the courthouse should note that there are several options for parking. A parking structure is adjacent to and on the south side of the Macomb County Administration Building on Main Street, south of Cass Avenue. The cost to park in the structure is $1 per hour. There are multiple disability parking spots available in the structure. Additionally, metered street parking, including disability parking, is available in front of the Old County Building and courthouse. Metered, municipal lots are also located nearby.
