For president, 3 Pointes vote for Trump, 2 for Clinton

In the Grosse Pointes, the vote for president Nov. 8 saw three cities support Republican Donald Trump, who won the election nationally, and two cities support Democrat Hillary Clinton.

In Grosse Pointe Farms, Trump was the victor, getting 3,528 votes — or 53.47 percent of the total — and Clinton received 2,706 votes, unofficial vote counts showed.

In Grosse Pointe Woods, 78.1 percent of the registered voters cast their vote for president. According to the Grosse Pointe Woods City Clerk’s website, Trump received more support with 5,490 votes — 50.5 percent of the total — while Clinton garnered 4,733 votes, which percentage-wise was equivalent to 43.53 percent.

In the tiny Macomb County section of Grosse Pointe Shores — where 47 of the 63 registered voters cast ballots, meaning that 75 percent of eligible voters took part in this election — Trump was the favorite, getting 31 votes to Clinton’s 14 votes. And in the much larger Wayne County portion of the Shores, Trump was also the big winner, earning 1,261 votes compared to 523 for Clinton. The Wayne County portion of the Shores had 78 percent of the city’s 2,401 registered voters — 1,869 — taking part in the election.

In Grosse Pointe Park, Clinton trounced Trump, with 4,085 votes — or 56.89 percent of the total — compared to 2,640 votes — or 36.76 percent of the total — for Trump, according to unofficial vote tallies available at press time. It was much closer in Grosse Pointe City, where Clinton received 1,713 votes — or 47.9 percent of the total — compared to 1,659 votes for Trump, who got 46.39 percent.
