ROYAL OAK — At approximately 11:09 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, Royal Oak police received a 911 call from a Walgreens employee and responded to the store, located at 30852 Woodward Ave., south of 13 Mile Road, on a report of an armed robbery.

According to police, a suspect had produced a handgun, demanded money from employees in the store office, and fled the store with an unknown amount of cash.

No injuries were reported.

A Troy K-9 officer was called to the scene and was able to track the suspect to a nearby parking lot, where officers located tire tracks in the snow.

Lt. Keith Spencer, of the Royal Oak Police Department Criminal Investigation Division, said he could not comment on anything besides what police released in a written report.

“There’s really not a whole lot more I can elaborate on since we’re actively working on the case,” Spencer said. “Obviously, if anyone has any information, we’d like to hear from them.”

The suspect was described as a black male with a thin build who stood 5 feet, 9 inches to 6 feet tall. He was wearing a scarf over his face, a black hooded sweatshirt, a black winter hat, gray sweatpants and white tennis shoes, according to police.
