WARREN — When a stranger defecated in a car parked overnight at a Warren auto repair shop in November, it was strange and gross.

It happened again at a different shop on Feb. 3.

“He just gets out and looks at the camera, like he just had no worry in the world,” said Chris Phillips, manager at Friendly Auto Service on Van Dyke Avenue north of Nine Mile Road, the scene of the first crime. The incident was captured on surveillance video.

“He walks over to the side and looks at the collision shop, tries to go back in customer cars, and the next thing you know, he’s defecating in a van.”

According to incident reports from the Warren Police Department, an officer was dispatched to the shop just before noon on Nov. 24 where he spoke to an employee who said that he and a co-worker made the stinky discovery when they went to move a 2009 Chrysler Town & Country. Closer inspection revealed human feces in the vehicle, just inside the van’s sliding door.

A review of the shop’s security video followed and that showed the suspect, described only as a white male, showed up at the shop about midnight in a silver, four-door Toyota with front bumper damage on the driver’s side.

According to a police report, the video showed the suspect exiting his vehicle and exposing himself while urinating as he walked in the parking lot on the north side of the shop. He allegedly was unsuccessful in attempts to enter several vehicles before he was able to access a 2010 Toyota Prius that was parked in the lot. The man was then allegedly seen on video exiting the car with items in his hand before he opened the sliding door of the Town & Country, pulled down his pants and defecated.

The report indicated he appeared to clean himself as he stood on the sidewalk with his pants down before he left south on Van Dyke in the Toyota he arrived in.

“The funniest part is, he locks his car while he gets out and goes through everybody else’s,” Phillips said. “So no one can go through his car.”

He said the customer who brought the Town & Country in for service was disturbed at first.

“It was quite comical, honestly. We had him laughing so hard he couldn’t be mad anymore. Just with the subject, there’s so much open room for jokes, and that’s what we did,” Phillips said.

He said the suspect actually came back again and looked through cars after hours but didn’t leave anything behind.

But Warren police believe the same suspect struck again on Feb. 3 at Twin’s Tire Service Center on Van Dyke, just north of Eight Mile Road.

According to the narrative from that report, an officer was dispatched at about 11 a.m. and was met by an employee who said surveillance footage showed a while male arrive in a Toyota and defecate in a white minivan. The suspect reportedly tried to open several doors at that location before he entered the minivan. The man’s behavior in the parking lot was similar to what was reported in the previous incident.
