FRASER — Police and school officials jumped into action on Oct. 4 after they received a tip that a student at Fraser High School had brought a gun into the building.

The Fraser Department of Public Safety confirmed a gun was found at Fraser High School.

Fraser Public Schools Superintendent Carrie Wozniak released a statement regarding the incident that was sent home to parents.

“Earlier today, a tip was provided to an administrator that a Fraser High School student might have been in possession of a weapon,” Wozniak wrote. “The school, in cooperation with the Fraser Police Department, began an immediate investigation. The student was removed from class, and a handgun was found in the student’s backpack. At this point in our investigation, the student did not make any threats against other students, our staff or community.”

Wozniak stressed the importance of community members and school staff working together to maintain a safe school district and stated that the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office is taking action on the matter. She also commended the person who reported the weapon to administrators and hopes parents will discuss with the children the importance of reporting such dangerous action to school staff.

“Our school administrators and the Police Department spoke with the student and potential witnesses. The student faces disciplinary and legal action, and is not allowed on school property,” she wrote. “We commend the person that reported the information, as well as our team, for their immediate actions in resolving this issue. In an abundance of caution, we have additional police presence on school property.”

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office did not comment on the matter or provide additional details owing to the fact that the person in question is a minor and their identity cannot be released.
