FERNDALE — The body of a 62-year-old Ferndale woman was found behind a building on Hilton Road July 6, and local police are saying that there were no signs of foul play.

According to the Ferndale Police Department, at approximately 10:30 a.m., authorities were notified by a resident who found the body of the woman behind 1521 Hilton Road. Police later identified the woman as Debra Reda.

“Debra, a well known resident, was often seen riding her bike around town & was easily recognizable for her small stature,” the Police Department wrote on Twitter July 9. “We offer those who knew and loved her our condolences.”

A press release stated that when Reda’s body was found, it was apparent that she was deceased.

Ferndale Police Sgt. Baron Brown confirmed that there didn’t appear to be signs of foul play where Reda’s body was found.

“You look for — initially, and it’s very preliminary — but you look for signs of trauma, a sign of a struggle, stuff like that,” he said of what police look for to indicate foul play.

Brown said the cause of Reda’s death has yet to be determined and police are waiting on the toxicology report to confirm the cause of death, which could take weeks to months.

“I don’t know that we’re going to update anything,” he said on the cause of death. “Just because … it’s not in the public’s interest what the cause was, as long as it wasn’t something that the public needs to be concerned about.”
