EASTPOINTE — A suspect is in custody after a traffic stop and foot pursuit involving Eastpointe police officers at 2:20 a.m. June 4 in the area of Gratiot Avenue and Toepfer Drive.

Eastpointe police officers attempted to pull over a 2017 Dodge Charger for speeding. Police said the driver pulled onto a side street in the area near Gratiot Avenue and Toepfer Drive and ran from the vehicle. Officers reportedly pursued the suspect through the yards of nearby homes before converging on the man in the backyard of a house in the 15200 block of Toepfer and arresting him without further incident.

The Eastpointe Police Department reported that the vehicle had been stolen in the city of Detroit.

The suspect was identified as 21-year-old Cameron Powell, and Powell was arraigned in 38th District Court June 4. He was charged with one count of receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle, and one count of resisting and obstructing police. He was issued a $15,000 cash or surety bond.

A preliminary examination is scheduled for Powell at 8 a.m. June 19 in 38th District Court. As of the time of publication, he had not retained or been assigned an attorney.
