Pedestrian killed in crash while crossing street

A 48-year-old Roseville woman was struck and killed by a car while crossing 12 Mile Road during the early evening Jan. 12.

According to a police press release, Christine Marie Oleson was trying to cross 12 Mile heading southbound east of Massachusetts Street. She had made it to the lane divider for the two eastbound lanes when a vehicle struck her at 5:45 p.m., police said. The vehicle’s driver, a 61-year-old Roseville man, immediately called 911 and stopped at the scene.

The driver told investigators he did not see Oleson in the roadway, and investigators found that she had been wearing dark-colored clothing. As of Jan. 13, police did not believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash.

“However the victim in the matter may have been under the influence of drugs and or alcohol at the time of the incident and may have stepped into the path of the approaching vehicle,” the press release stated.

The investigation was ongoing as of Jan. 13. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident was asked to call the Police Department at (586) 447-4483.
