ROYAL OAK — At approximately 7:13 p.m. March 8, a 76-year-old Royal Oak resident suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Woodward Avenue, near Bamlet Road, south of 13 Mile Road.

Royal Oak police and paramedics responded to 911 calls about a pedestrian struck by a vehicle, and an investigation by police and the Oakland County Accident Investigation Team determined that the pedestrian was attempting to cross Woodward, outside the area of the crosswalk, when she was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by a 33-year-old Ferndale resident.

Paramedics transported the pedestrian to Beaumont Hospital, where she died from her injuries at approximately 8:45 p.m. March 9, according to police.

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured. Several lanes of Woodward were closed for a short period of time, and alcohol was not suspected to be a factor in the crash, police said.

Police ask that anyone with additional information call Lt. Al Carter, of the Criminal Investigation Division, at (248) 246-3456.
