ROSEVILLE — One driver is dead and another is in police custody after a crash on eastbound Interstate 94 Oct. 22.

According to the Michigan State Police, at approximately 6:05 a.m., four cars and one semitruck were involved in a crash just north of Masonic Boulevard in Roseville. Michigan State Police said that one driver rear-ended another and began a chain reaction crash. Traffic in the area was slowing at the time due to a previous unrelated accident, and a pickup truck collided with the vehicle in front of it.

“(The victim) was in one of the vehicles impacted by this chain reaction,” said Lt. Mike Shaw, of the Michigan State Police. “The car was severely damaged and caught fire.”

Michigan State Police personnel said that the driver of the pickup truck was taken into custody for driving under the influence and had submitted to a blood draw. He had not yet been formally charged as of Oct. 23.

Police did not identify the female victim.

The freeway had reopened to traffic by 11:15 a.m. that day.
