WARREN — A 45-year-old Warren man was in stable condition Jan. 20 after he was stabbed or punctured during a confrontation with a suspect who allegedly broke into his vehicle near Nine Mile and Schoenherr roads.

Detective Sgt. Dan Bozek of the Warren Police Department said the suspect, described as white and 18-25 years old, was reportedly carrying a backpack when the victim saw him allegedly entering or attempting to enter his vehicle in the 14000 block of Knox Avenue. It was not clear at press time whether the suspect was trying to steal the car or something inside of it.

“At some point there was some kind of an altercation between the two,” Bozek said. “It looks like during the struggle between the suspect and the homeowner, (the victim) was poked, stabbed or cut, depending on how they rule on it at the hospital, twice in the torso area.”

Bozek said it did not appear that any internal organs were injured and that the victim was not seriously injured.

The victim reportedly told his wife to call the police before he left the home to confront the suspect.

Police arrived soon after, but the suspect had fled on foot. A police K-9 team performed a track east way from the scene, but the suspect eluded capture.

An investigation continued at press time as police sought any additional information from witnesses and surveillance video from the surrounding neighborhood.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident can reach or leave a message for the officer in charge of the investigation, Detective Dale VanHorn, at (586) 574-4700.
