EASTPOINTE — A homicide investigation was underway Sept. 30, less than 24 hours after an Eastpointe man was found dead in his home near Stephens Road and Interstate 94.

According to a press release published on social media by the Eastpointe Police and Fire Department, the 38-year-old man was found dead in a home in the 24000 block of Ridgecroft Avenue at about 1:20 p.m. Sept. 29.

“The investigation revealed that the victim was shot multiple times in his basement by an unknown person(s),” the department shared. “Our department pastors were sent to the scene to comfort the relatives of the victim.”

Eastpointe Public Safety Director George Rouhib said the victim’s ex-girlfriend notified police after she arrived at the home with his children.

“It was his birthday,” Rouhib said. “His ex-girlfriend went there with his kids to bring him a cake, and that’s when they found him.”

Rouhib said investigators do not suspect robbery as a motive but declined to offer more details while the investigation remained active.

Police said the homicide was Eastpointe’s first this year.

Anyone who might have observed anything on Ridgecroft overnight Sept. 28-29 has been asked to contact the Eastpointe Police Department directly at (586) 445-5100, ext. 1028.
