ROCHESTER HILLS — An 88-year-old man died in a fatal car crash at 3:03 p.m. Dec. 30 on Dequindre Road, near Clovelly Avenue.

According to a police report, the man was driving a 2017 Dodge Journey north on Dequindre Road when he suffered a medical emergency, according to what the man’s wife told police. She was a front seat passenger in the car.

The Dodge Journey drove left of the road’s center lane and sideswiped a southbound 2009 Pontiac Vibe, the report states. The Dodge continued left of the center lane and drove through a ditch and into the bushes of a home in the 47000 block of Dequindre.

The Dodge did not strike the home, the report states. The driver was transported to Beaumont Hospital in Troy and pronounced dead. The man’s wife and the driver of the Pontiac Vibe were not injured.

All vehicle occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and there was no airbag deployment in either vehicle, the report states. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The man and his wife are residents of Palms, located in Michigan’s thumb area.

At press time, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office crash reconstruction unit was investigating the crash.
