WARREN — A 23-year-old man was left in critical condition after what investigators at this point would only confirm was an “altercation” at a Warren bar.

The incident brought police to Club Echelon, located at the Blue Finn Bar & Grill on 10 Mile Road, just west of Schoenherr Road, at 2:30 a.m. Nov. 24.

“It sounds like (the altercation) happened a little closer to midnight,” Warren Police Detective Sgt. Paul Houtos said. “He was struck during an altercation and hit the concrete.”

Houtos said the man, a Dearborn resident, was alive as of Nov. 27, but the department offered no further details about his condition.

Sources confirmed that the altercation involved the man, two women and hired security at the bar.

“We had officers dispatched to Detroit Receiving Hospital. We found that we had a victim that was in critical condition,” Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer said.

Witnesses reportedly told hospital staff and the police that they were at the bar when the man was injured.

Mike Wietecha, the bar’s owner, later relayed what he was told from his head of security.

“I had a patron that was inside the bar with his head down on a tabletop, and there were two females with him,” Wietecha said.

He said security went over to check on the man’s well-being, at which point the women “became combative with the security officer.” The women were escorted out and security returned to the man at the table. They reportedly got him up and also escorted him to the door, which can reportedly be seen on surveillance footage.

“Once he gets outside, the females start to become combative with security and the male, as well, begins to be combative with security. The male squared off with a security guard after he was told multiple times to go home, and swung on the security guard. The security guard protected himself and swung back, and the gentleman fell.”

The altercation remained under investigation Nov. 27 as interviews with witnesses continued.
