St. Clair Shores police are looking for a man who allegedly shoved a gas station clerk before robbing the store of thousands of dollars worth of cigarettes June 19.

The man walked into the Speedway gas station at 11 Mile Road and Little Mack Avenue around 1:20 a.m. June 19 and began asking about the price of cigarettes, according to St. Clair Shores Police Detective Gordon Carrier.

Then, Carrier said, surveillance footage shows the man walking around the counter.

“He then went behind the counter, he started to yell (for the clerk to) give him everything she had. ... (He) pushed her with the elbow,” Carrier said. “He said he wanted all the Newports and kept telling her to hurry up.”

The man allegedly dumped out a trash can and filled it with $3,500 worth of Newport cigarette cartons, then he left the store and got into the passenger side of a tan van, possibly a Chevrolet Venture from the early 2000s, and left heading westbound on 11 Mile Road.

Carrier said the clerk was not hurt and the man did not display or use any weapons. The suspect was described as a black man who was wearing a blue baseball hat and a blue and white shirt.

Anyone with any information about the man is asked to call Carrier at the St. Clair Shores Police Detective Bureau at (586) 445-5305.
