EASTPOINTE — This month’s photo, taken during the 1940s, is of the original East Detroit municipal building. The building was located on Nine Mile Road just east of Gratiot Avenue, where the current police and court buildings are located.

Within that building, all of the city services were conducted. The Fire Department was on the left side and the Police Department, Clerk’s Office, City Manager’s Office, Assessing, Water, Building and other departments were in the center portion. On the right was the municipal court and Probation Department, which was shared with the East Detroit City Council and various city commissions in the evening.
