Harper Woods officers respond to shots at local inn

HARPER WOODS — Harper Woods police officers responded to reports of shots fired at the Parkcrest Inn July 19.

The incident took place at approximately 6:30 a.m. at the motel, which is located on Harper Avenue between Vernier Road and Moross Road. One suspect was taken into custody and there were no reported injuries.

“Officers were sent there on shots fired following a domestic violence incident,” said Harper Woods Director of Public Safety Vincent Smith. “A male suspect fired at a female inside of a car. No one was injured. The suspect was taken into custody.”

The suspect was later identified by police as 26-year-old Rickey Jackson, of Memphis, Tennessee. He was charged with one count of assault with intent to murder, one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of weapons — firearms, one count of carrying a concealed weapon and four counts of felony firearm. He was arraigned on July 21 and his next court date is a probable cause conference at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29. His bond was set at $200,000 cash or surety.

Jackson had not retained or been appointed an attorney prior to publication.
