HARPER WOODS — Harper Woods detectives are working to track down three suspects, one of whom fired a handgun inside Eastland Center on Mother’s Day.

A few days after the incident, on May 13, Public Safety Director James Burke said investigators have leads that they are following in the case.

“Our detectives have been able to identify … good information about suspects, and we are actively tracking them down,” Burke said.

Officers were called to the mall shortly after 1 p.m. May 10 for a report about shots fired at the shopping center.

“The mall was placed in lockdown while our officers conducted an extensive search for the suspects involved,” Burke stated in a Nixle.com release. “One round struck a glass storefront window, but there are no reported injuries.”

Police said that a trio of suspects was seen near door No. 7 when one of them pulled out a handgun and fired three shots inside the mall. The three suspects left in a gray Range Rover.

Public safety departments from the Grosse Pointes and the Detroit Police Department helped in the search at the mall on the day of the incident.
