WARREN — An investigation was underway at press time after a man was fatally shot in the driveway of his Warren home on Sept. 29.

Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer said police and paramedics responded to a 911 call from the 21400 block of La Salle Boulevard, near Toepfer and Schoenherr roads, at 9:03 p.m., where a 32-year-old man was reportedly shot.

“The caller stated she heard a knock on the door and her boyfriend, the victim, answered,” Dwyer told reporters Sept. 30. “A light-skinned black male in his 30s was standing on the porch. He told the victim that he saw two kids in the driveway and believed that they were trying to break into the victim’s car.

“The victim went out to investigate. Seconds later, five shots rang out,” Dwyer said. “The victim lay wounded in the driveway.”

Warren Fire Department paramedics transported the man to the Ascension St. John Hospital in Detroit, where he was declared dead.

Dwyer said some evidence was recovered by detectives, including video, which was being processed and analyzed.

“We do have a team of detectives investigating this homicide. We are recovering what we feel is some very valuable evidence, and more will follow on that,” Dwyer said.

Dwyer previously said that the victim had just arrived at the home after picking up his son at football practice.
