Fatal shooting at business in Clinton Township

UPDATE: On Jan. 10, the Clinton Township Police Department issued a press release stating that detectives will present the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office with a warrant request Jan. 11 for the suspect who allegedly shot two men at a Clinton Township business Jan. 9, killing one.


An arraignment of the suspect is scheduled for 1 p.m. Jan. 11 at 41-B District Court in Clinton Township.


The deceased victim is Thomas Edward Badke, 61, of Romeo. The wounded victim is Angelo Joseph Micale, 34, of Harrison Township.



CLINTON TOWNSHIP/FRASER — The Clinton Township Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one person dead, another injured and the suspect in custody.


According to a press release from the department, the incident occurred at approximately 8:42 a.m. Jan. 9 at Reliable Fence, 35375 Groesbeck Highway, between 15 and 16 Mile roads.


Clinton Township Police Capt. Maierle said the situation stemmed from a dispute between two employees. Police arrived to find the owner, 61, deceased from one gunshot wound.


Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, 24, and another employee, 34, were in the midst of a dispute. The suspect then allegedly shot the employee twice in the back. He’s expected to survive, according to Maierle.


Other employees intervened, and successfully retrieved the suspect’s weapon. The suspect then fled the scene.


“The suspect shoots one employee in the back,” Maierle said. “The other employees hear the gunshot and they wrestle. … The shooter takes off, crashes his car in the area of 14 and Groesbeck in Fraser.


The suspect reportedly crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Groesbeck Avenue and Kelly Road.


The suspect then led police on a foot chase. An officer from the Fraser Department of Safety later confirmed that officers from Fraser and Roseville saw the suspect run into a subdivision off 14 Mile Road. Officers from the departments then formed a perimeter around the suspect on Bittersweet Road, between Kelly Road and Beacon Lane, and arrested the suspect without incident.


As of the early afternoon Jan. 9, the suspect was being lodged at the Clinton Township Police Department.
