FARMINGTON HILLS — In the spirit of holiday giving, a local car dealership wants to give away as many toys as it can to charity.

Suburban Nissan of Farmington Hills is hosting a charitable event called “Pack the Pathfinder,” and the company is hoping to take in as many toys as possible to donate to local children this holiday season.

For every vehicle the business sells for the next month, the sales team will buy a toy and put it in one of its vehicles, a Pathfinder, instead of a donation box. Sales Manager Scotte Spencer said it’s their goal to fill the entire vehicle up with toys and then some.

The company has participated in a charity toy collection for a number of years, but Spencer wanted to do something more than just a standard collection box.

“I got the car right in the front window, so my goal is to have the tailgate open and toys flowing out the back for the kids so we can have some fun with it,” he said. “I think each one of my salesmen here are as excited to go shopping for the (charity) as they are for their kids.”

Suburban Nissan won’t limit the charitable endeavor to just vehicle purchases; it will accept donations from anyone who wants to contribute and bring in a gift.

The toys can be anything, Spencer said, from stuffed animals to board games. All donations will be accepted until Monday, Dec. 16, and then they’ll bring all the toys to the local Toys for Tots.

It’s Spencer’s hope that they can become the “official drop-off for the community.”

Though Toys for Tots only accepts new and unwrapped toys and nothing used, Suburban Nissan will still accept those donations and will take them to a different local charity.

“Everything will make it somewhere to make an impact,” Spencer said.

All donations can be brought to Suburban Nissan of Farmington Hills at 37911 Grand River Ave.
