MACOMB COUNTY — In an effort to arrest individuals with outstanding warrants for nonpayment of child support, the Macomb County Friend of the Court partnered with the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office for a weeklong bench warrant “sweep” the week of Sept. 16.

The Sheriff’s Office’s Friend of the Court Enforcement Unit devoted extra resources to accomplish this endeavor.

Prior to the sweep, Thomas Blohm, director of Friend of the Court, said he encouraged individuals with bench warrants for nonpayment of support to appear at the Friend of the Court between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to resolve their warrants.

“If an individual appears with a good faith effort, we will work with them for a positive resolution,” Blohm said.

The announcement came in advance of the sweep to afford those with outstanding bench warrants the opportunity to appear at the Friend of the Court office and avoid arrest.

“Additionally, any individuals who voluntarily appear will be given the opportunity to have their circumstances reviewed to determine if they qualify for a special program that can help substantially reduce state-owed arrearages,” a press release states.

The Sheriff’s Office noted that should anyone in the public wish to provide a tip regarding the whereabouts of an individual with an outstanding Friend of the Court warrant, they can call (586) 469-5756 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
