EASTPOINTE — Eastpointe police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the early morning June 14.

At approximately 3:45 a.m., Eastpointe police officers arrived at the Oakwood Manor Senior Living Apartments, near Nehls Avenue and Oakwood Avenue. They discovered in the parking lot a 25-year-old Detroit resident who had been shot. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Investigators report that a handgun was recovered in the area where the man was found and said they are continuing to investigate the matter. They also stated that preliminary evidence suggests the shooting was not a random act.

“There was more than one gun used in this event and we recovered quite a bit of evidence from the scene,” said Eastpointe Deputy Chief Eric Keiser. “We did impound a pickup truck that was struck by gunfire from the scene that was involved in the incident. The investigation is still ongoing.”

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Eastpointe Police Department at (586) 445-5100, ext. 1.
