TROY — Staff members gave the Easter Bunny high-fives and took breaks from their duties in the pediatric and neonatal wards at Beaumont Hospital, Troy, the morning of April 19 to pose for photos with the bunny and an Oakland County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

“Keep a positive attitude,” said Oakland County deputy Marco D’Angelo after he handed 7-year-old Gabriel Tolic a stuffed bunny. The youngster gaped in wonder at the Easter Bunny from his hospital bed as his mother, Valentina Tolic, of Clinton Township, smiled.

She said Gabriel was receiving treatment stemming from complications of influenza, and they hoped to be home for Easter.

“He’s never missed a day of school,” Valentina said. “He’s upset he missed a math test.”

D’Angelo was filling in for his boss, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, who had a scheduling conflict. It was D’Angelo’s first time visiting children at Beaumont Hospital, Troy, with the Easter Bunny.

“It’s good for the kids,” D’Angelo said.

Mandy Ford, the community liaison for the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, said that the Sheriff’s Office has been making rounds with the Easter Bunny at Beaumont Hospital, Troy, since 2005.

The Easter Bunny and D’Angelo were also scheduled to visit with children at Euro-Peds National Center for Pediatric PT in Pontiac and St. Joseph Mercy Oakland-Pediatric Services the morning of April 19.

Lonnie Shaffer, 3, of Clinton Township, smiled with surprise and joy when the Easter Bunny paid her a visit in her hospital bed at Beaumont Hospital, Troy.

“This is amazing, isn’t it?” said her mother, Courtney Shaffer, as the bunny posed for a photo with Lonnie.

Courtney said they hoped to be home for Easter.

Ashley and Mike Kibby, of Waterford, posed for photos with the Easter Bunny while Coral and Brynn, their 6-day-old twins, snoozed in the newborn intensive care unit. Ashley said they also hoped to be home for Easter.
