Man drowns at Spencer Park in Rochester Hills

ROCHESTER HILLS — A 27-year-old Royal Oak man drowned around 7:22 p.m. July 7 at Spencer Park.

According to a police report, the man was visiting the park, located on John R Road north of South Boulevard, with four friends. The friends told police they all went into the water to swim, and when they came out, they realized their friend was missing.

After notifying lifeguards, a search commenced and lifeguards found the man in the park’s swimming area in approximately 10 feet of water. Paramedics transported the man to Beaumont Hospital in Troy, where he was pronounced dead.

Spencer Park includes a 38-acre lake and a lifeguarded beach. Investigation of the drowning was ongoing at press time by members of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, the report states.
