WARREN — One man is dead and another was in police custody Thursday evening after a violent crash near Schoenherr and Common roads.

Lt. Lawrence Garner of the Warren Police Department confirmed one fatality — a 21-year-old resident of White Lake Township — after the crash at about 4:15 p.m. Aug. 23.

Garner said the victim, whose name was not released pending notification of family members, was travelling south on Schoenherr at Common in a 2002 Chevy Cavalier when he was struck from behind by a Dodge Ram truck. At least three vehicles, and possibly a fourth, were involved.

“He was struck from behind, pushed into oncoming traffic going northbound. He was then T-boned and the car caught on fire,” Garner said.

Police do not suspect alcohol was involved, but the driver of the truck was in Warren police custody pending a blood draw to determine if there were narcotics in his system.

No other injuries were reported.
