ST. CLAIR SHORES — Michigan State Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed a hit-and-run incident that killed a construction worker Sept. 21 to reach out and share what they saw.

Michigan State Police Troopers were dispatched to Interstate 94 near Nine Mile Road in St. Clair Shores around 3 p.m. Sept. 21 after a Macomb County Department of Roads employee was struck and killed by a vehicle that then fled the scene of the crash.

According to tweets from Michigan State Police Metro Detroit, the worker, who was later identified as a 26-year-old Chesterfield Township man, was near an orange road service vehicle when the crash occurred. No description of the suspect vehicle was available.

The freeway was shut down at Eight Mile Road for some time while the investigation took place Sept. 21.

Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel said the county is working with police to find out what caused the fatal collision.

“Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of this individual,” he said in a prepared statement. “The county is committed to working with the Michigan State Police to determine how this tragedy happened.”

Although State Police say they have received numerous tips regarding the incident, they are still asking anyone who may have witnessed it to call (313) 237-2450 or leave a tip using the Michigan State Police mobile app.
