Consider the car when purchasing gifts for others

Shoppers who are fine-tuning their gift-giving ideas for the holiday season may want to consider the drivers in their lives.

Bill Griffin, owner of Griffin’s Neighborhood Auto Clinic in Farmington Hills, said his business offers a VIP voucher for $79.95 that covers more than $500 worth of services and discounts.

Griffin said it comes with two free oil changes, two free tire rotations, free battery service, a free brake inspection, a free air conditioning check and a free check engine light scan. He also said it offers miscellaneous discounts on services like a coolant flush, a brake job and 10 percent off any service up to $100, he said.

He said the voucher is popular year-round, especially with parents who have young drivers.

“Paying for the two oil changes in itself would pay for what you pay for the voucher,” he explained.  “It’s a good gift to give somebody, especially around Christmastime, for the person that's hard to shop for, because everyone needs car repair.”

According to Greg Swett, president and owner of Classic Appreciation World Class Auto Detailing, his auto detailing business offers personalized gift certificates during the holidays for meticulous cleaning and polishing of cars.

He also said, from now until noon Dec. 24, the business will give customers a $20 gift card for every $99 they spend.
“It is a great gift for anyone who owns a car,” he said. “We make the lucky recipient’s car look and feel new again.”
Swett said the certificates may be used on services such as interior, exterior or complete auto detailing, window tinting, headlight restoration, and paintless dent removal.

For the person who loves to see upcoming or concept vehicles, tickets to the 2015 North American International Auto Show are now on sale. The public show will take place Jan. 17-25, and tickets may be purchased through the auto show’s website, www.naias.com. Admission is $13 for adults, $7 for seniors ages 65 and older, $7 for children ages 7-12, and free for ages 6 and younger who attend with a guardian. Group discounts are also available.
