SOUTHFIELD — Grab your blankets, chairs and snacks, and get ready to park it at the Burgh Historical Park for this year’s Park*It @ the Burgh event.

The family-friendly event will take place July 21 and will feature food, music and a movie.

The event is put on by Southfield Parks and Recreation and Park*It Family Fun Nights, a company based in Sterling Heights and owned by Sponsorship Solutions. Park*It produces a family-fun night tour, stopping in 30 metro Detroit cities this summer.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m., families are invited to enjoy the musical stylings of the George Brothers Band, a Detroit-based classic rock band.

The event will also feature inflatable playscapes, face painting and many different food vendors, such as Hungry Howies, Meijer, Tim Horton’s and Kona Ice.

Southfield Parks and Recreation Special Events Programmer Janet Husaynu said the idea for the event came from a desire to partner with local businesses.

“I’ve found the more you can work with the community, different business people, the better,” Husaynu said. “I love working with community organizations, and that’s been my biggest goal for most of my programs.”

Carl Gianotti, owner of Sponsorship Solutions, said patrons will also have the opportunity to win raffles and giveaways.

“All you have to do is go register at the Park*It tent,” Gianotti said.

At dusk, families are invited to enjoy a free showing of the 2013 film “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.”

Husaynu said the whole park will be available for patrons to enjoy.

“I’ve talked to many different people, and they say this is the first time they’ve been out to our site in years, and they’re so happy,” Husaynu said.  “It’s a diamond in the rough. It’s just a beautiful site.”
