In auto show’s wake, dealerships offer incentives

The North American International Auto Show at Detroit’s Cobo Center may now be closed to the public for another year, but it’s not too late for prospective car buyers to drive over to a dealership showroom to take advantage of some deals.

According to Nick Schrah, new car sales manager at Bill Fox Chevrolet, the auto show tends to bring a huge increase in business around this time of year.

“These last two weeks of January are usually the busiest time for us,” he said. “We usually see a lot of activity with people coming from the auto show. The news and stuff like that really helps.”

Schrah said the dealership offers “auto show bonus cash” toward SUVs such as the Trax, Equinox and Traverse. In terms of trucks, the 2016 Chevy Silverado is a re-design with some handsome incentives as well, he said.

“We also have the launch of our brand-new 2016 Malibu, which has pretty strong lease incentives on that,” Schrah explained, adding that some even stronger incentives are on a special Malibu edition.

“We currently have pretty strong incentive programs on the 2016 Limited,” he said. “We’re actually able to discount those vehicles pretty heavily because we have the new models already out.”

Roy Williams, general sales manager at Avis Ford, said traditionally there is a buzz around the auto show that stimulates a little more traffic at the dealership level.

“The manufacturer generally has a slight increase of incentives at or just right after the auto show, so therefore we look forward to the auto show’s coming and going, so we can sell a few more cars,” he said. 

Williams said the main Ford models often get a bump in incentives. He listed the Fusion, Edge, Explorer and Escape as examples. 

“Those are vehicles that we see a little bump around this time of year,” he said.
