MOUNT CLEMENS — Macomb County sheriff’s detectives have identified the alleged suspect involved in an Aug. 20 assault and robbery in Mount Clemens.

Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said Edward Louis Mahone, 30, of Mount Clemens, was formally charged Sept. 1 on charges that he assaulted and robbed a 27-year-old man out of $960.

According to the original report, the victim, also a resident of Mount Clemens, was walking along Logan Street near the area of Groesbeck Highway and Cass Avenue at around 1 a.m. when he was approached by Mahone. Mahone allegedly asked the victim if he was interested in purchasing a cellphone from him for $13.

The victim told deputies that he agreed to buy the phone for $13. He also said that during the transaction, he noticed an occupied vehicle with its headlights off parked nearby. The individual in the vehicle was never identified.

After the transaction, according to the report, the man said he felt that he was about to be robbed, so he began to run. He told deputies that two individuals tripped him and began to beat him; one of the suspects allegedly pulled out a knife and used it in the assault, the report states.

The victim told deputies that he covered his face and he temporarily lost consciousness, and that when he came to, he noticed that he had been robbed of all of his cash.

After the alleged assault, the victim went to a friend’s house on Cass Avenue and slept. The next morning, he told deputies that he called his father, who brought him to McLaren Macomb Hospital for treatment to injuries he had received. It was medical personnel at the hospital who contacted the Sheriff’s Office about the incident.

Deputies reported that the laceration on the victim’s hand was consistent with a knife wound. The injuries, which also consisted of various cuts and bruises, were not life-threatening.

Wickersham said detectives with the Sheriff’s Enforcement Team were able to identify Mahone as the suspect and arrested him on Aug. 31. Mahone was video-arraigned in Clinton Township 41-B District Court on a charge of armed robbery.  He was given a $150,000 cash-or-surety bond and he remained in the Macomb County Jail at press time.

The court had no attorney information listed for Mahone at press time.
