All city buildings closed in Grosse Pointe Woods until further notice

GROSSE POINTE WOODS — On Nov. 17, an email blast was distributed to Grosse Pointe Woods residents that, because of the increasingly high numbers of COVID-19 cases being reported, all Grosse Pointe Woods city buildings are closed to the public. They will remain closed until further notice. This includes City Hall, the Community Center, the Public Works Office, and the Activities Building at Lake Front Park.

According to the e-blast, city employees are working remotely where possible and services remain available by telephone and email. Using the drop box located along the circle drive at City Hall, 20025 Mack Plaza Drive, is encouraged for payments and other correspondence.

Urgent business that needs to be conducted in person will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Notary and passport services are ceased at this time while trash and yard waste bags currently are not available. Wayne County will offer COVID-19 drive-thru testing from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Dec. 5 and 6 at Harper Woods High School, 20225 Beaconsfield St. in Harper Woods. According to the Wayne County website,, the tests are free.

The testing sites offer a minimal-contact experience with diagnostic nasal swabs administered to anyone older than age 5 while they remain in their vehicles. Minors must be accompanied by a guardian. Preregistration is not needed. Also, no insurance or doctor’s order is required.
