FRASER — An 86-year-old Clinton Township woman died Jan. 16 after she was reportedly struck by a snowplow truck as she walked out of a Fraser hair salon.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:31 p.m. outside of the Salon Inspire & Day Spa on 15 Mile Road near Hayes Road. Fraser public safety officers rushed to the scene and found that the vehicle had been pushing snow against a wall in the parking lot when it backed up and apparently struck the victim.

“It was learned that the woman had left a hair salon in the complex and while walking to her car, she was tragically struck by a man driving a landscape truck, (privately hired), who was salting the parking lot,” Fraser Director of Public Safety Samantha Kretzschmar said in an email. “The critically injured elderly woman was quickly transported via EMS to McLaren Macomb Hospital where she subsequently died from her injuries.”

The driver of the landscape truck, a 45-year-old Warren man, was taken into custody at the scene. The Fraser Department of Public Safety said he was released from custody pending further investigation and the case’s submission to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office. There have been no charges filed as of Jan. 19.

“We don’t plan to release the victim’s name. She is a Clinton Township resident,” Kretzschmar wrote. “The man has not been charged as of yet (so we are not releasing his name at this time), as it is still under investigation.”
