SHELBY TOWNSHIP — St. Vincent de Paul Detroit opened a brand-new thrift store in Utica June 2 at Shelby Corners, 13455 Hall Road in Utica.

St. Vincent de Paul previously had a location on Van Dyke Avenue in Utica that is now closed.

Nancy Szlezyngier, president of the Board of Trustees of St. Vincent de Paul, said the new store’s location will help the organization reach more people who are in need of its service.

“Our new store will increase our reach in the area, helping St. Vincent de Paul Detroit provide more services like food, clothing, rent and utility assistance to those we serve in southeast Michigan,” she said.

Mary Lynn Faunda Donovan, CEO of  St. Vincent de Paul, explained what makes the new store an upgrade.

“The new store location allows us to create a flagship-style store in the area, which will better position us to increase our visibility and better serve our community and neighbors in need,” Faunda Donovan said.

The thrift store accepts donations of clothing, furniture and household items. Donors can schedule a pickup or donate at the store or online.

The store is open for donations in the rear of the building from 12 to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. It is near the Dollar Tree in the plaza. Look for the “donations accepted” sign on the wall.

All materials donated to St. Vincent de Paul either directly support neighbors in need or help generate funding via the stores.
