WARREN — A Warren resident who has previously served two terms as a state representative will run in November for a chance at serving another term.
In the race for Michigan House of Representatives’ 13th District, incumbent Lori Stone won the Democratic nomination in the Aug. 2 primary, after receiving 5,329 votes, or 73.7%, according to the unofficial results compiled by the Office of Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson. Stone defeated her opponent, Myles Miller, who received 1,903 votes, or 26.3%.
Stone, 42, is a lifelong resident of Warren. Prior to serving as a state representative, she worked as a teacher.
Ronald Singer ran unopposed in the Republican primary.
Michigan’s 13th House District covers the east side of Warren and a portion of northeast Detroit.
In the 14th District of the Michigan House of Representatives, Donovan McKinney won the Democratic primary with 4,451 votes, or 59.3%. Kristina Lodovisi received 2,129 votes, or 28.4% and Aaron Delikta, a Center Line city councilman, received 923 votes, or 12.3%.
McKinney, 30, is a lifelong resident of Detroit. He previously served as precinct delegate for the Michigan Advisory Council on Environmental Justice.
Wendy Jo Watters ran unopposed in the Republican primary.
Michigan’s 14th House District covers Center Line, parts of the south and west of Warren, and a portion of northern Detroit.
In the 58th District of the Michigan House of Representatives, Michelle Smith won the Republican primary with 5,953 votes, or 83.4%. She defeated Giovanni Ndrea, who received 1,185 votes, or 16.6%.
Smith, 38, of Sterling Heights, previously lived in Warren and is a real estate appraiser.
Nate Shannon ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.
Michigan’s 58th House District covers the city of Utica and portions of Warren, Sterling Heights and Shelby Township.
In the Michigan Senate’s 3rd District, Stephanie Chang defeated Toinu Reeves in the Democratic primary. Chang received 22,447 votes, or 82.8%, while Reeves had 4,657, or 17.2%.
Chang, 38, is a current state senator who has lived in Detroit for 17 years.
There were no Republicans competing for the nomination in the district.
The district covers Madison Heights and Hazel Park, Hamtramck and Highland Park, and portions of Warren, Troy, Sterling Heights and Detroit.
In the race for the Michigan Senate’s 10th District, Paul Smith won the Republican primary with 7,610 votes, or 63.5%. Joe Hunt received 4,379 votes, or 36.5%.
Smith, 77, of Sterling Heights, is a retired General Motors Co. project manager.
State Sen. Paul Wojno, who currently serves in District 9, ran uncontested in the Democratic primary election for the new 10th District, which covers part of Sterling Heights, Warren and Center Line, and a portion of northeast Detroit.
In the Michigan Senate’s 11th District, Macomb County Commissioner Veronica Klinefelt won the Democratic primary with 13,418 votes, or 62.5%. She defeated Eastpointe Mayor Monique Owens, who received 8,056 votes, or 37.5%.
Klinefelt, a 30-year resident of Eastpointe, previously served on the Eastpointe City Council and the East Detroit School Board.
Mike McDonald ran unopposed in the Republican primary for the district, which covers the cities of Eastpointe, Roseville and Fraser, and portions of Detroit, Clinton Township and Macomb Township.
In the Macomb County Board of Commissioners’ 11th District, County Commissioner Mai Xiong, currently serving in District 2, received 3,890 votes, or 60.1% in the Democratic primary. Donna Kaczor Caumartin received 2,585 votes, or 39.9%.
Clifford Frost ran unopposed in the Republican primary.
The Macomb County Board’s 12th District saw a close race, with all four Democratic candidates falling within a range of only 232 votes. County Commissioner Michelle Nard, currently serving in District 1, won the primary for the new 12th District with 1,380 votes, or 27.8%. Andrey Duzyj received 1,222 votes, or 24.6%. Khaja Ahmed received 1,213 votes, or 24.4%, and Terry Wisniewski received 1,148 votes, or 23.1%.
Bill Clift ran unopposed in the Republican primary.
In the Macomb County Board’s 13th District, Eastpointe City Councilwoman Sarah Ann Lucido won the Democratic primary with 3,345 votes, or 52.4%. Courtney Flynn finished second with 2,149 votes, or 33.7%, and Robert D. Roscoe received 890 votes, or 13.9%.
In a close race, Randell J. Shafer won the Republican primary for the district with 1,443 votes, or 50.6%. Michael Babat received 1,407 votes, or 49.4%.
