ROYAL OAK — The Royal Oak City Commission approved a new metered parking system in a unanimous vote July 14. Flowbird, the new system, will be installed within the next six months.

BEVERLY HILLS — Local theater educators are coming together to put on a show of their own this summer. The Oakland Theatre Project presents “Web of Murder,” by Jonathan Troy, with a cast and crew made up almost entirely of teachers and directors from Oakland and Macomb counties.

BIRMINGHAM — Birmingham has consolidated its nine election precincts into five to improve efficiency and lower costs. This change means most voters will have different precinct numbers and polling places.

UTICA — Michael Dedaj, a 28-year-old Sterling Heights man, was arrested on July 29 after an argument at the Puff Cannabis Co. in Utica escalated into a road rage incident, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — Two men have been charged with breaking into two hair salons in Shelby Township, and police said more charges will likely be coming.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — Louise Day-George has been named the Shelby Township Senior Center’s featured artist for the months of July and August.

UTICA/STERLING HEIGHTS/SHELBY TOWNSHIP — Niken Patel and Logan Lawler, 2025 graduates from the Utica Center for Science and Industry, were named national champions in the SkillsUSA robotics and automation problem-solving competition earlier this summer.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — A 29-year-old man from Shelby Township has been arrested in connection with the recent death of a woman, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.

EASTPOINTE — As school districts statewide prepare for the 2025-2026 school year, they’ve been thrown into financial uncertainty because the state Legislature has not passed the state budget, which includes the school aid budget.
