Three Macomb County wrestling teams in action at state finals

Dakota, Lincoln and Tower all set for action

BATTLE CREEK — Three wrestling teams in the C & G coverage area will look to keep their season alive when they hit the mat for their respective Michigan High School Athletic Association state quarterfinal matches.

The teams will all wrestle Feb. 21 at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek.

Macomb Dakota (25-5) battles Hartland High (38-2) in a Division 1 state quarterfinal at 3:15 p.m. The winner advances to a state semifinal set for 9:30 a.m. Feb. 22 at Kellogg Arena.

Both Warren Woods Tower (19-11) and Warren Lincoln (22-9) will wrestle in Division 2 quarterfinal bouts at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 21. The Titans will battle Tecumseh (31-2), while the Abes get Lowell (21-1). The winner of those matches moves on to state semis set for 11:45 a.m. Feb. 22 at Kellogg Arena.

The championship matches for Division 1-4 all take place at 4 p.m. Feb. 22.

Romeo Bulldogs

Romeo remained undefeated by defeating Macomb Dakota 26-14 in a Macomb Area Conference crossover that paired two of the top-ranked teams in Michigan. Romeo’s defense came into the game having surrendered just 13 points all season, and helped seal the win with a safety and interception return for touchdown by Brad Tanner in the fourth quarter. Romeo earned its first win against Dakota since 2010.
