Thousands of young bowlers take part in junior national championships

The 2013 North Pointe Junior Gold Bowling Championships took place July 15-19 at various bowling alleys in the C & G Newspapers coverage area.
The tournament, which features boys and girls in a number of age groups, included more than 2,300 United States Bowling Congress youth members who were eligible to compete. The event was presented by Ebonite, Columbia 300, and Track and Hammer.
Bowlers, who converged in metro Detroit from all over the United States, competed for nearly $275,000 in scholarships and spots on Junior Team USA. Bowlers came from states such as New York, Texas, Utah, Illinois, California and South Dakota to have a shot at winning the junior championships.
Matches took place at six local bowling centers: boys competitions took place at AMF Rose Bowl in Roseville, and Sterling Lanes and Sunnybrook Lanes in Sterling Heights; girls matches took place at Astro Lanes in Madison Heights, and 5 Star Lanes and Bowl One in Sterling Heights. The finals took place July 19 at Sunnybrook Lanes after press time.
