Open tryouts for Wayne State track and field

The Wayne State University women's track and field team will hold two open tryouts for interested participants at the Blanchard Lowell Track, located on WSU's athletic campus.

The first tryout is set for 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. Sept. 11 and will be for throwers. The second session is from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. Sept. 19 and will be for sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers and any throwers that couldn't make the earlier tryout.

Anyone interested should contact head coach Rick Cummins at or associate coach Kirby Blackley at prior to showing up for either tryout session.

Interested students in attending must be enrolled full-time (at least 12 credits) for the Fall 2013 semester at Wayne State. In addition, players must bring proof of insurance and present proof of a physical exam within the last six months.

Romeo Bulldogs

Romeo remained undefeated by defeating Macomb Dakota 26-14 in a Macomb Area Conference crossover that paired two of the top-ranked teams in Michigan. Romeo’s defense came into the game having surrendered just 13 points all season, and helped seal the win with a safety and interception return for touchdown by Brad Tanner in the fourth quarter. Romeo earned its first win against Dakota since 2010.
