HUNTINGTON WOODS — Birmingham Groves boys golf proved to be best at the Berkley High Invite April 24 at Rackham Golf Course.
The Falcons shot a team total 313, beating Warren De La Salle by four strokes.
“Golf is a lot of fun, so we cam out here to get back into the rhythm of playing and enjoying the game,” Groves coach Andre White said after his team bested the 13-squad field.
North Farmington was third with 330, Dearborn High was fourth with 338 and Berkley High and the Dearborn B team each shot 351 to tie for fifth.
The Berkley B team (355), West Bloomfield High (356), Clarkston Everest (359), North Farmington B Team (361), South Lyon High (364), West Bloomfield Frankel (374) and Madison Heights Lamphere (393) rounded out the field.
Individually, Warren De La Salle’s George Cornwall took the top honor, shooting an even par 72.
He knew it could be a special day after a birdie on the second hole, hitting the par 3 to within tap-in distance. He then went on to birdie No. 13, 14, 15 and 18 to close out the round.
“I’m still getting used to my new irons and just got more comfortable as the round went on,” he said.
